My heart went pitty pat all the while I was reading this stunning romance by Ms. Long. Kit, the spymaster who has been sent off to their country house on a fool’s errand by his father (to get his son away from a certain woman) finds himself falling for a lovely, mysterious woman who has a history that they have yet to discover. The lovely, mysterious woman is Susannah, who has only dim memories of a mother and sister and is devastated to discover that the “father” that was killed was not her father at all. This was a twisting spy tale that kept me flicking the pages as fast as I could go…to the very end. Highly entertaining!

It has to be hard coming up with plots for a regency romance given all the great story lines floating around out there. Behold Julie Anne Long. Her story lines are always a little different and her characters are engaging and multi faceted. Beauty and the Spy is a beautiful love story with plenty of humor and action. Don't miss this one. It will definitely go on my keeper shelf. Can't wait for Sylvie's story!
THIS IS A FIVE STAR BOOK. . .NOT ONE. MY MISTAKE!
Good but didn't like the ending.
All was interesting until the epilogue. Don't like reading on and on then come to no conclusion. Otherwise a pleasant read.
Did not want to put it down!! Can't wait to read the next one!!! Looking forward to all of her books!!
I enjoyed this book very much.
This was my first Julie Anne Long book and I cannot wait to read more from this fabulous author. Her characters are so easy to imagine, so realistic. The plot was very interesting as well. It was hard to put down. Very steamy romance too. I'm excited to read about the other sisters.
I first read Long's TO LOVE A THIEF and was enchanted with her pygmalion story. But somehow Kit and Susannah just never caught my fancy as well as Gideon and Lily. Susannah is a bit too spoiled (reminding my of Jane Austen's Emma) and Kit behaves like an adolescent despite being a mature man of 37 (drinking, carousing with married ladies, and being set down by his daddy).

Their relationship does proceed at a unique and nice pace for a Regency becoming employee/employer and friends first. But I don't buy the "spy" characterizations in the story. None of the spies seem particularly clever but instead driven by their own personal cravings. There's very little honor and duty among them.
This is a great story with awesome characters. Even the bad guy Morley is very interesting. Love Kit, Viscount Grantham, the hero. He is a spy on forced leave by his Father. Their interaction is humorous. Suzannah Makepeace is a funny and darling heroine and her talent for drawing is woven well into the story. Likable characters, great plot, great backstory, humor, and great resolution to the HEA. 5 stars for sure!
