I've enjoyed this series of books and plan to read more by this author but this one was just too much like the others and had a curve that was just a little too much... I don't want to give it away but I enjoyed the first 2 books much more. There were ends that were never tied up and new characters that just weren't needed and didn't add to the story at all. I wanted to have a good ending for Seth and it was but it should have left off the new part and went back to the other couples to finish their stories.Tags : Over the Edge (The Kincaid Brides) (Volume 3) [Mary Connealy] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Over the Edge The Kincaid Brides Volume 3 Mary Connealy 9780764209130 Books Reviews
I read the first book in this series "Out of Control" which was good but I REALLY wanted to find out what happened to Seth so I skipped book 2 and read this one "Over the Edge" book 3. Where do I start?
Seth has to be the most UNUSUAL hero of any book Ive read and probably the most rooted for. When you read this you really want him to succeed and overcome his memories. He's such a likable nutcase. )
A brief recap Seth has serious injuries both physical and mental as a result of a horrifying childhood adventure gone wrong coupled with fighting in the war. While on the rebound from Andersonville, he marries a woman, Callie, but then disappears. Well, Callie comes looking for the sorry scumbag she married and not only finds her husband (who has no memory of her) but gets embroiled in an adventure involving missing diamonds, kidnapping and caverns. Is Seth really insane or just traumatized?
Excellent story. Loved every minute of it.
After reading Over the Edge I am reluctant to read the second book that I skipped cos I feel like this one can't be bettered.
By the way, like all of Mary Connealy's books, this is listed as "inspirational" but there is no preaching in here, just clean reading.
This tell starts off with Seth's estranged wife holding off a robbery! Talk about a tough girl! You get pulled in immediately and root for her as she attempts to save the day. Then she meets up with Seth and not only do you understand her reaction to seeing him but you want to help her beat-the-way out of him! What kept me from loving this comical, heartbreaking, love story was the timeline. I am a big stickler for time line issues. And boy there are some gaps. This story starts a couple of months after the chaos of Ethan and Audra's story. But I don't think the author took into account how long it takes for a broken bone to heal or even does a thorough enough job of explaining when the letters were written in relation to how long Callie searched for Seth. I want to explain this but to do so would give away part of the story. It will make since when you start reading the first 3 chapters.
The other thing, more selfish on my part, was I was longing for an epilogue. The ending was fine, I just wanted a little more.
So... why 4 stars and not 3. Well, overall it was still a good story. The pace and the characters were enticing enough to almost over look the mistakes. Really I give it, 3.75 stars so 4 pretty close. The series as a whole, I give 4 stars flat out. And I'd recommend it as a a good, solid Inspirational Romance full of action and suspense.
This is the third book in the Kincaid Brides trilogy, a solid, fun end to the series. While past events from Books 1 and 2 are summarized, it's best to read the series in order. In previous books, Seth is depicted as "loco"---reckless, wild, and crazy. He experiences nightmares due to his childhood accident in a cavern, in which he was badly burned, and from his time in the Civil War. He forgot he had married and left Callie after the war and now Callie has come to Colorado, with their son, to hunt him down (plus she has nowhere else to go). This book started with a bang as Callie comes up against stagecoach robbers. The action slowed a little in the middle of the book as Seth and Callie try to fix their relationship. Callie is hurt that Seth doesn't remember her and she doesn't trust him not to run away again. Seth is trying to remember his past while wanting Callie back in his life and "loving" him again (in the married sense of the word). The villain from the previous books, Jasper, is back and wanting what he thinks is his. The action picks up again towards the end of the book as the Kincaids have their final confrontation with Jasper, who's been a thorn in their side since Book 1. Also, the Kincaid men finally come to terms with the cavern, that dark, dangerous place that seemed to be the cause of their problems and family breakdown when they were kids. Although there was a little spiritual content throughout the book, towards the end Seth has a spiritual epiphany in the cavern, nice to read but seemed kind of abrupt. Callie is just the type of woman that Seth needs but she seemed a little too prickly towards not only Seth (which is understandable) but to everyone in his family, too. Overall, this was the usual funny cowboy book that the author is known for. A light mystery, strong spiritual message at the end, a hero/heroine you root for, and funny humor throughout. On a side note, Callie's brother, Luke, is the hero in Swept Away (Trouble in Texas Book #1), the beginning of another humorous series.
I've enjoyed this series of books and plan to read more by this author but this one was just too much like the others and had a curve that was just a little too much... I don't want to give it away but I enjoyed the first 2 books much more. There were ends that were never tied up and new characters that just weren't needed and didn't add to the story at all.
